VR Festival “Places”

What does virtual reality have in store for us? Interested parties were able to get in contact with the groundbreaking technology in a four-day event. Numerous startup companies took part in the VR-themed festival “Places” and researchers presented their findings in this field. The atmosphere was positive in general (especially at the interactive VR stations), albeit some critical voices were noticeable, too. Prof. Christopher Wickenden (Hochschule Fresenius) for instance stressed that taking a “critical” stance towards virtual reality and the recent storm of enthusiasm is imperative.

Besides listening to presentations and attending a hackathon, visitors and participants were free to try VR applications from different areas of expertise – some of them serving entertainment purposes (car race, haunted house) while others also comprised educational elements (e.g., human anatomy, or making patient care more efficient)
